About Us

The mission of the Western Oklahoma Human Resource (WOKHR) Organization is: Promoting the HR profession through education and networking.

WOKHR is composed of emerging and seasoned HR Professionals who strive to continually remain updated on federal and state compliance laws, strengthening their skills so that performance is beyond expectation, and learn best practices offered within the industry and business cultures.  Through the business environment, they are also actively engaged as strategic partners linking economic development in western Oklahoma’s five county districts.

WOKHR was established in 2003 when Western Technology Center’s Business Development Coordinator recognized a need to support and train area businesses involving human resource management.  The first meeting was attended by five people followed with continual growth and development.  Today, WOKHR has influence with 51 companies/individuals impacting near 5300 employees in the workplace.  In 2009, WOKHR received their chapter affiliation with the Society of Human Resource Management. SHRM is the world’s largest HR membership organization devoted to human resource management; representing more than 275, 000 members in over 160 countries. SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters within the United States and subsidiary offices in China, India and United Arab Emirates.  SuperStar status was awarded to the WOKHR in 2010 for outstanding membership growth.  WOKHR are members of the Oklahoma HR Society and shares sisterhood with eleven other Oklahoma SHRM chapters and six student chapters.

Starting in 2010, nationally recognized certifications were offered through Western Technology Center to receive the status of a Professional Human Resource (PHR) or Senior Professional Human Resource (SPHR) designation.  The WOKHR chapter currently has five PHR and three SPHR professionals within their membership.
